A beautiful home. A dark secret. One Portland-area couple is about to discover the terrifying cost of their dream home.

From the darkness, a disembodied voice breaks the silence, echoing a dire warning to all who dare listen.

Young and hopeful, Justin and Emily embark on a day of house hunting, chauffeured by their past-her-prime Portland real estate agent, Sylvia, and her trusty Subaru.

Instantly charmed by the craftsman-style "fixer-upper" on Evergreen Street, Justin and Emily focus on the positives, encouraged by agent Sylvia. But the sale is complicated by property manager Michael, whose adversarial presence and cryptic warnings hint at a darkness lurking within the old home.

Down in the basement, the polite facade drops. Justin and Michael clash over access to the furnace room. Preoccupied, the inspector misses Michael uncovering a strange scar on the ground inside. Below the house, a familiar darkness is waking up–  just in time to meet the new owners.

Justin and Emily celebrate major news, unaware that the ancient foe beneath their foundation is beginning to stir. As the ominous presence wakes, Michael is struck with a severe, mysterious illness, and the voice from the void returns to deliver its most chilling warning yet.

Flashback to 1960: Brother Eric, a young, earnest Mormon missionary with a Southern charm, is immediately drawn to the serene beauty of the house on Evergreen Street. But the lurking darkness, disguised as the voice of the Lord, quickly takes hold, hypnotizing Eric and compelling him to commit unimaginable acts in the name of his mission.

Back in the present: Following alarming medical test results, Emily is ordered to rest at home, leaving her vulnerable and alone. She seeks escape by painting in her basement studio, unaware that her artistic pursuit has made her the focus of an ancient darkness below—a darkness that is now slowly creeping through the walls.
